Myself

Frederick Hayes

I am an individual who after enduring 8 months of chemotherapy for stage 4 Lymphoma was then discovered to have a brain tumor. This tumor was a metastasis from Rectal Cancer. After brain surgery and radiation it was determined to be too late to aim at a cure through further surgery. Since that time I have been receiving palliative chemotherapy and immunotherapy for stage 4 Rectal Cancer. This changes everything for me.

The physical consequences of my disease are manageable at the moment but the psychic issues remain challenging.  My life has suddenly been moved much closer to it’s horizon line Despair, rage, anger, regret, fear, and anxiety have gripped my inner life.

Baba Ram Das said that in life we are in the end all walking each other home. I agree with this sentiment. But I desired to express my own inner process. One way that I have been doing this is through the creation of images. Over time I have come to refer to this as “Painting my way home.”
